SearchPie’s top plan is $99/month and its headline feature is “Optimize for AI search (AEO) & LLM.txt.” Google has publicly said it doesn’t read llms.txt files and isn’t planning to. Here’s what that feature actually is, what it isn’t, and how the rest of the app compares to Plug In SEO.

We build Plug In SEO, so take that into account — but every price, rating and feature below comes from each app’s live Shopify App Store listing as of July 2026, not from memory. SearchPie (its Shopify listing URL is oddly still /seo-booster, a leftover from an earlier rebrand) is a genuinely well-reviewed, full-stack SEO + speed + schema app with 2,317 reviews. It’s a real option worth comparing fairly, AEO marketing claims included.

The short answer

Quick verdict

Stay on SearchPie’s free plan if you want one app to handle basic schema, bulk meta tags, image compression, and broken-link detection at zero cost — its free tier genuinely covers more ground than most free plans.

Pay for SearchPie instead if you want speed optimization, product/review/FAQ schema, and bulk AI tag generation bundled into a single subscription, and you’re comfortable that its $99/month AEO/LLM.txt feature is unproven, not a guaranteed AI-visibility win.

Pay for Plug In SEO if your priority is guided audits that explain each fix, AI keyword research, and rank tracking — and you’re fine running speed/image work through a separate app (Plug In Speed) instead of one bundle.

What SearchPie is best at

The bottom line: SearchPie packs schema, speed, and bulk AI tagging into one subscription — genuinely useful if you want a single app instead of three, and its free plan is more generous than most.

The Starter (free) plan already covers a daily SEO score check, compression for 50 images, basic store and breadcrumbs schema, bulk meta tags and alt text with templates, 50 AI-generated tags, and 404/broken-link detection across the whole store. Premium ($39/month) adds more image capacity, JS minification, lazyload, product price/rating/FAQ schema, auto-tagging across all pages, and backlink submission. Enterprise ($99/month) adds unlimited image compression, sitelink and article structured data, keyword explore/audit/tracking, and the feature at the center of its top-tier marketing: “Optimize for AI search (AEO) & LLM.txt.”

That feature is real — it’s on the live Enterprise plan, not vaporware. What the listing doesn’t say is how the LLM.txt file is generated, what “AEO optimization” changes technically, or any evidence it increases how often a store gets cited by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, or Perplexity. That distinction matters, because the file format itself has an unresolved adoption problem:

Google’s Gary Illyes said at a Search Central event in July 2025 that “Google doesn’t support LLMs.txt and isn’t planning to,” advising sites to rely on normal SEO practices to appear in AI Overviews instead. John Mueller has separately compared llms.txt to the old, long-abandoned meta keywords tag.
Search Engine Land, “Google says normal SEO works for ranking in AI Overviews, and llms.txt won’t be used” (July 2025)

So: SearchPie sells a real, named AEO/LLM.txt feature on its top tier, and we’re reporting that honestly. Whether it moves the needle on AI visibility is a separate, unresolved question — one no vendor, including us, can currently answer with confidence.

What Plug In SEO is best at

The bottom line: Plug In SEO leans on structured data (schema) as its GEO/AEO mechanism — a technology AI platforms have actually confirmed they use — paired with guided audits and keyword research, rather than a speculative LLM.txt file.

Every plan adds Product, Article, WebSite, Organization, Social Network Profile, and BreadcrumbList schema automatically, plus optional Search and Local Business schema. Its core loop is scan → explain → fix: it audits your store for missing meta, broken links, and duplicate tags, then gives plain-English instructions for each one instead of just auto-applying a fix. On top of that it does AI-powered keyword research and ongoing rank tracking, and its bulk meta editor uses additive templates — your own words wrapped around a variable like %% product.title %% — so pages stay unique instead of becoming duplicates of each other.

To be fair to both apps here: structured data is the right long-term bet because Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI have all confirmed they use it as a ranking/citation signal in some form — but “confirmed as a signal” isn’t the same as “guaranteed to boost citations by itself.”

A study tracking 1,885 pages that added JSON-LD schema between August 2025 and March 2026 — pages already getting cited heavily by AI — found the schema alone produced no major citation uplift on any platform (Google AI Overviews −4.6%, Google AI Mode +2.4%, ChatGPT +2.2%, all within noise). The researchers note schema may still help pages that aren’t being crawled by AI systems at all get seen in the first place.
Ahrefs, “We Tracked 1,885 Pages Adding Schema. AI Citations Barely Moved.” (2026)

We’re including that study because it cuts against a simple “schema = AI citations” pitch too — ours included. Structured data on a Shopify store is still worth having for rich results (stars, price, breadcrumbs in Google search), and it’s the more grounded of the two apps’ AEO approaches. It just isn’t a proven silver bullet, and neither is a $99/month LLM.txt feature.

The honest trade-offs

The bottom line: the real choice isn’t “which app is more AI-optimized” — it’s whether you want one bundled subscription or a guided, standalone SEO tool, and how much weight you put on an unproven AEO feature.

On price and scope: SearchPie is genuinely cheaper for a small store (free) and covers more ground in one app — schema, image compression, minification, and lazyload are all included, where Plug In SEO keeps that scope in a separate app, Plug In Speed. If “fewer apps installed” matters to your store, that’s a real point in SearchPie’s favor. Plug In SEO has no free plan and starts at $29.99/month once the 14-day trial ends.

On the AEO/LLM.txt claim specifically: we’d be overselling our own product if we told you Plug In SEO has an equivalent feature — it doesn’t generate an llms.txt file, and we’re not adding one just to match a marketing bullet that Google has explicitly said it ignores. If SearchPie’s Enterprise plan is the reason you’re considering it, weigh that $99/month against the $39/month Premium plan, which gets you the same schema and speed features minus the unconfirmed AEO layer.

On depth versus bundling: SearchPie’s tiers are built around applying more schema, tags, and compression at scale. Plug In SEO adds a layer SearchPie doesn’t: it tells you which keywords to target, tracks whether rankings are actually moving, and explains every flagged issue instead of only auto-fixing it. If that guidance is what you’re missing, it’s the reason to pay for Plug In SEO specifically — not because SearchPie is a lesser app, but because it’s solving a different problem.

How to choose

Strip away the feature lists and it comes down to your actual bottleneck:

  • “I want one app to handle schema, speed, and bulk tagging together, ideally free.” → SearchPie’s Starter or Premium plan covers this well.
  • “I want the newest AI-visibility feature available, whatever it costs.” → SearchPie’s Enterprise plan is the only one offering an LLM.txt feature today — just go in knowing it’s unproven, not guaranteed.
  • “I don’t know which keywords to target or whether my SEO is actually improving.” → Plug In SEO — keyword research and rank tracking are core, not add-ons.
  • “I want an app that explains each fix instead of just applying one, and I don’t mind a separate speed app.” → Plug In SEO’s guided audit-and-fix approach is built for that.

The honest summary: if you want one bundled app covering schema, speed, and bulk tagging — including a shot at whatever AEO/LLM.txt turns out to be worth — SearchPie is a strong, legitimate pick, especially at its free and $39 tiers. If your gap is strategy and explanation, not automation-at-scale, Plug In SEO is built for that, and that’s what its $29.99/month starting price is paying for.

FAQ: Plug In SEO vs SearchPie

Does SearchPie have an AEO or LLM.txt feature?

Yes. SearchPie’s Enterprise plan ($99/month) lists “Optimize for AI search (AEO) & LLM.txt” as a feature on its live Shopify App Store listing. The listing doesn’t detail exactly how the file is generated or what the AEO optimization changes technically, and there’s no public evidence yet that it increases citations in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, or Perplexity.

Does llms.txt actually help you get cited by AI search engines?

Not according to Google. In July 2025, Google’s Gary Illyes said Google doesn’t support llms.txt and isn’t planning to, recommending normal SEO practices instead for AI Overviews visibility. Independent research has also found no clear correlation between having an llms.txt file and being cited in AI answers. It remains an unstandardized, voluntary convention, not a confirmed ranking or citation mechanism.

Is Plug In SEO free?

No. Plug In SEO doesn’t offer a free plan. It has a 14-day free trial, then plans start at $29.99/month (Lite), with Standard at $49.99 and Premium at $79.99. SearchPie, by contrast, does have an ongoing free (Starter) tier.

Which app is better, Plug In SEO or SearchPie?

Neither is universally better — they solve different problems. SearchPie bundles schema, speed optimization, and bulk AI tagging into one subscription with a genuine free plan. Plug In SEO is narrower in scope (it doesn’t do speed/image work — that’s Plug In Speed) but adds guided audits, AI keyword research, and rank tracking, with no free plan. Pick based on whether you want one bundled app or a standalone SEO tool with strategic guidance.

Can I run Plug In SEO and SearchPie on the same store?

Technically yes, but watch for overlap — both apps can generate meta tags, alt text, and JSON-LD schema, so running both risks duplicate or conflicting markup. If you do run both, pick one app to own each job (for example, one for schema, the other for keyword research and tracking) rather than letting both manage the same fields.
